PROMISING START TO THE YEAR FOR CRANES

AS PENSTHORPE SPOT RECORD FLOCK

A spectacular New Year present flew over Pensthorpe Wildlife and Gardens near Fakenham, providing a fantastic spectacle for members of the public.

A flock of nine wild cranes, the largest group ever spotted at Pensthorpe, were seen flying over the Reserve on New Year’s Day before landing in a nearby field. Then on 4^th January 2012, a group of seven cranes, expected to be from the same group were seen soaring over once again.

It is expected that the wild cranes had travelled up the natural corridor of the Wensum Valley and were drawn to the Reserve on account of Pensthorpe’s resident Eurasian Cranes which can regularly be heard bugling across the countryside. Their calls, along with that of a wild male crane who spends much of his time at Pensthorpe, would have attracted the birds’ attention and called them over.

Deb Jordan, Trustee of the Pensthorpe Conservation Trust and co-owner of Pensthorpe comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have seen such a large group of cranes in the wild. Cranes are extremely close to our hearts and, as many people are aware, we’ve worked hard to try to protect this species and the habitats they rely on by raising their profile and through our work as members of the Great Crane Project.”

She adds: “The visit on 4^th January was much to the delight of our visitors as it really is a spectacle to see their huge wing spans and hear their loud calling, which was returned by Pensthorpe’s own Eurasian Cranes”.

None of the cranes that flew over had any rings to identify them, which would indicate that they are wild birds and are most likely to have come from the flock more usually seen on The Broads.

Cranes are attracted to the Wensum Valley because it’s an un-spoilt habitat with areas of water and wet meadows which aren’t easily accessible by humans, lessening the chance of being disturbed. It also acts as a corridor for the birds to travel across the county.

Madness First to Perform at Adnams Newmarket Nights in 2012

Cloud over Silver Lining for Norfolk Firm

Norfolk firm Multi Fab Ltd, which expanded its manufacturing capacity with new premises at Attleborough, Norfolk a year ago, was paid a return visit by Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman (who officially opened the premises one year ago) to celebrate the company’s successes of the past 12 months.

The £2.5m investment, offered a purpose built factory, together with an aluminium pre-treatment machine for the powder coating line, which is unique and made specifically to order for Multi Fab Ltd, resulting in the recruitment of several new employees, including a new factory manager and recent apprentice with a view to adding more young apprentices in 2012 under new Government initiatives, to train as skilled sheet metal workers.

When asked if apprentices work, Peter Dalby Production Manager for Multi Fab said: “We all have to start somewhere and we have had apprentices come and go. Some can be high maintenance and need managing constantly, but they are young and need development. The ones that are keen to learn and genuinely looking for a career, not just a wage packet to burn every week, really becomes an asset. Organically grown skills in house are ideal for our type of operation”.

With the investment three members of staff moved over to work at the Attleborough site from their Mildenhall operation and another 15 staff were recruited locally to work in the sheet metal and powder coating lines, with 35 full time jobs being created.

Trading for Multi Fab Ltd has been “Extraordinary in what has been a tough trading year for many in the construction sector,” according to managing director, Simon Gladwin.

“Multi Fab is one of only a few fabrication companies left with the capabilities and quality of output to deliver for our clients across the UK. We have fantastic teams at both manufacturing plants; the workforce has really put in the maximum effort this year in making our Attleborough investment such a success. The other Directors and I are extremely proud of what has been achieved and we all have an excellent platform on which to continue growing through 2012 and beyond”.

Recent high profile projects for Multi Fab include the supply of aluminium windows doors and curtain walling, plus all the sheet metalwork requirements in the building of a state-of-the-art hotel in the heart of Stratford, East London and will be used to accommodate guests for the London-based Olympics in 2012. Multi Fab has also just completed the façade fabrication for the new-look M&S store in Norwich, now making it the largest M&S store in the UK. The project modernised the look of the building with the installation of glass curtain walling and advanced structural glazing to the exterior, plus a clever rain harvested ‘living wall’ used to reduce inner city carbon.

Multi Fab offer a complete sheet metal fabrication service to the aluminium window, door and curtain walling construction industry as well as the retail shopfitting market with an industry leading 30 year guaranteed powder coating service. The new pre-treatment machine on the powder coating line is the only machine in the world which has nine stages, able to pre-treat and therefore powder coat any size of sheet metal from tin cans to cars.

Its base out of Attleborough is used for all sheet metal fabrication and continues to trade since 1983 from Mildenhall for window, door and curtain walling production.

One year on has also seen the introduction of its new solar business, Eagle New Energy. Also based at the new Attleborough site, Eagle New Energy had been on target this year to achieve a £2m turnover from a standing start, until the recent news of the reduction of the Government’s Feed-in Tariff paid to householders which now falls from 43.3p per kWh of solar electricity to just 21p under new proposals and a deadline of December 12^th.

Nigel Woodhouse Sales and Marketing Manager for Multi Fab said: “We developed and expanded the solar business out of Multi Fab 12 months ago to create a separate company called Eagle New Energy. The market place quickly became saturated with solar companies springing up from all over the place and almost on a daily basis, with many hoping to make a fast buck. Our strategy differs and we invested in making the right choices to take on and commit to only the jobs that could be fulfilled successfully and for our customers to receive their maximum benefit from the Feed In Tariff.”

He adds: “With these latest significant changes to the Government’s feed in tariff, thankfully, we do not have to let any customers down, return any deposits, make anyone redundant or default on any vehicle finance or other big commitments that many others in the solar industry had taken on.”

He said: “We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and in running an ethical business; we will continue to grow our solar business at a slow and steady pace because we are in it for the long haul and will end up with a sustainable business that has longevity within the solar industry.

“We do have the backing and resource to take on multi million pound commercial façade installations should we so decide, but every decision we make is carefully considered to safe guard our employees and customers, so I am pleased to say there is no boom and bust for us.

“Having said that, we have relayed our concerns to Mr George Freeman MP over the Government’s timescales in reducing the Feed-in Tariff for the UK solar industry in the hope that he will take this back to Westminster. While in principal we agree to the proposals we are just as shocked as is the whole industry in the limiting timescales imposed.”

George Freeman MP says: “I have been looking forward to returning to Multi Fab Ltd to see their progress over the past year. It’s extremely impressive already, such as their aim to increase apprentice numbers, and their work for M&S Norwich and in preparation for the 2012 Olympics in Stratford. I like nothing better than to hear about Norfolk companies going out and leading the way in their field in the UK.”

He adds: “I’ve been happy to discuss the concerns regarding Feed-in Tariffs and I understand their worries. However the actions are absolutely necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability – and therefore jobs and growth in the long run – of the solar industry. Current tariff levels are completely unsustainable, and set to exhaust the whole FIT budget within a few months. There would then be no money left at all, leaving the solar industry in the lurch.”

Steps Concert Announced At Newmarket Racecourses in 2012

90s pop sensation Steps has been announced as the first live act confirmed to play at Newmarket Racecourses in 2012.

Tickets are now on sale for the Steps concert on Saturday 25^th August 2012. Their performance comes in addition to the exclusive Newmarket Nights and will be one of two Summer Saturday Live family events being hosted by the Racecourse throughout 2012, combining fun family entertainment with an afternoon’s racing and an early evening concert.

Students 'Buy Local' with Norfolk Tipple

Woodforde’s Norfolk Ales have produced some of our county’s finest speciality beers, from Once Bittern to raise money for the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Premier Crew for Norwich’s promotion to top-flight football and Pincer Pale Crabster Ale to celebrate the Cromer and Sheringham Crab & Lobster Festival.

This time, the award-winning Norfolk brewery has turned its attention to another local institution to produce ‘Union Ale’, a 4.1% hoppy beer especially for the UEA Students’ Union Bar.

Strong demand from the Students’ Union Bar for another ‘local’ ale to sit alongside Wherry, was met keenly by Woodforde’s which is involved in promoting Norfolk’s food heritage and uses Norfolk-grown Maris Otter malted barley in all its beers.

Jungle PR Promoting New Norwich School for Enterprise

Jungle PR is working with the much talked about Norwich School for Enterprise to help promote this exciting new style of learning along side business.

Parents and students are invited to attend an open evening on Thursday 10^th November at 7pm to

find out about the much talked about 'Studio School'. The open evening will take place in the South Site Hall of The Hewett School.

Further information will be unveiled for this new Norwich Studio School which will be based at The Hewett School on Hall Road, but run separately from it. The school intends to bridge the gap between education and business for up to 300 pupils aged between 14 and 19 if it gets the green light from the Government, expected in November 2011.

Rob Anthony, Associate Headteacher leading the bid for the new school comments: “The key element to this new school is to involve pupils working closely with local business to equip them with the skills and confidence to enter the world of work effectively.”

The Norwich Studio School has gained the backing of Norfolk County Council and the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

There will also be opportunities to work alongside local businesses and engage in onsite business learning.

With the popularity of real ale on the increase, Woodforde’s brewery has extended its annual Open Day to span across Friday 25^th and Saturday 26^th November 2011 offering a bumper treat for real ale fans and foodies alike.

The Open Days (10am – 7pm) will give real ale fans an opportunity to step behind the scenes at the picturesque brewery and have a tour of the Woodforde’s site before tasting a vast array of their award-winning cask ales.

All beers will be on offer, from firm favourites Wherry and Nelson’s Revenge to more recent additions, Sundew and Once Bittern. Plus, festive brew Tinsel Toes with its unique hint of Christmas pudding returns in beerboxes and Once Bittern will be launched in bottle form to give real ale fans a seasonal speciality.

With food and ale being a popular combination, a range of delicious local food producers will be sampling a tasty range of nibbles. On Friday, meet Rutland Butchers, Coles Traditional Foods, Yare Valley Oils, The Saucerer (chilli marinades and sauces) and Peachey’s Preserves. On Saturday, Rutland Butchers will return alongside Jubberwacky Chutneys, Essence Preserves and Muntons, to sample the finest seasonal produce.

The Woodforde’s shop will also be open to sell a range of merchandise and food from the shop, such as Mellasat Wines, Nelson Rum Liquor and Chillies Galore jellies and sauces.

New Attraction To Open At Pleasurewood Hills

After months of anticipation, Pleasurewood Hills theme park on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk is unveiling a £110,000 new attraction, the ‘Laser Labyrinth’.

From 22^nd October 2011, the Laser Labyrinth will be open to the public and is the newest attraction to the family theme park in four years.

The Laser Labyrinth is a futuristic indoor game where contenders are put into groups of six and do battle with lasers in the depth of the Pleasurewood Hills labyrinth*.

Alexis Camelin, general manager at Pleasurewood Hills, comments: “The Laser Labyrinth is an exciting and adrenaline-fuelled new addition to Pleasurewood Hills! For some time we’ve been looking to introduce an active, physical game to the Park to further diversify the offering. This is a great way for families and friends to have fun together, plus it’s another activity they can participate in during periods of wet weather.

“For visitors, this marks the first in a host of new rides set to open at the Park throughout 2012 and 2013”.

Love is in the air at Pensthorpe

Grey Crowned Crane Chicks Hatch

A love affair is blossoming between two Grey Crowned Cranes in Norfolk’s Wensum Valley and it’s all down to the work of the Pensthorpe Conservation Trust.

It follows months of heartache and worry for one of the Reserve’s Grey Crowned Cranes, who lost her mate last year. Most cranes pair for life, so the shock of losing her mate meant it was unlikely she’d find companionship again.

Pensthorpe’s Wardens, desperate for her to find a mate, recalled one of their male Crowned Cranes, who was on loan elsewhere but struggling to pair. In February he was introduced to the female back at Pensthorpe and since then a naturally slow bonding process has been underway.

They say the course of true love never runs smooth and at first there were little encouraging signs of the pair mating - the female seemed disinterested and unimpressed and the male was timid. However, over the summer the male crane (against all odds) started to woo his new feathered friend, and the pair mated successfully. After two clutches of infertile eggs, the new chicks hatched!

Chrissie Kelley, Head of Species Management at Pensthorpe comments: “This is such a heart-warming story. For two cranes to bond so quickly and, after failing twice, to then hatch two chicks from a total of 10 eggs, we’re over the moon! The pair are taking their new parental responsibilities in their stride, watching them rear their youngsters is quite special and they’re the latest talk of the Reserve”.

Crowned Cranes have a vulnerable conservation status, most likely to survive in the hot and barren climate of East Africa. Pensthorpe is home to seven of the world’s 15 species of Crane most of which are in decline due to loss of habitat.

Magical Seasonal Floodlit Feeds Return to Pensthorpe

One of Norfolk’s most atmospheric and serene seasonal experiences is soon to return for winter, when Pensthorpe Nature Reserve near Fakenham launches its daily Floodlit Feeds from Saturday 22^nd October 2011.

At 4pm daily, join the Pensthorpe Wardens as they entice the birds from across the Reserve to fly in at dusk for feeding.

Watch a variety of wildfowl including Teal, Gadwall and Wigeon as well as geese and swans swoop in over the water to be fed. Hear an informed talk about Pensthorpe and find out more about the wild birds who fly in to join those who call Pensthorpe home all year round.

See the line of brilliant white Ross’s Snow Geese come to feed, the Red-breasted geese around the wardens feet waiting for a nibble or the bright blue bill of the Puna Teal dabbling at the water’s edge.

Visitors can look on from the comfort of the indoor viewing gallery – peer out over the Mill Pond where, right in front of you, the feeding takes place and see all the different birds in their breeding plumage at this magical spectacle.

Father Christmas Floodlit Feeds

In the run up to Christmas, the Floodlit Feeds get festive as Father Christmas flies in to help the wardens with their daily 4pm task. Watch Father Christmas feed the birds then go and meet him in his Pensthorpe Grotto! The Father Christmas Floodlit Feeds take place on 17^th – 24^th December at 4pm*.

Pensthorpe closes for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, after which the Floodlit Feeds continue at 4pm until 31^st December. From 1^st January 2012 onwards, the daily feeds move to 3pm.

If you’re visiting Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, the cost of the Floodlit Feed is included in the Admission Price. For those who just want to attend the Floodlit Feed, the cost is £3.

€1.3Million Investment Sees Pleasurewood Hills On Track To Ascent

Pleasurewood Hills theme park on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk, has secured an investment of €1,350,000 which will be used to purchase new rides and make further cosmetic enhancements over the winter.

The investment comes from new park owners, The Looping Holding, who took over the park in January 2011.

The money will be spent on a raft of enhancements including updating rides, landscaping and theming areas of the park, painting, equipping the restaurants with outdoor terraces, installing CCTV, adding new queue lanes and adding a state-of-the-art lighting system to the stage in the Castle Theatre.

Improving green credentials is also on the agenda, with water saving projects and tree planting among the changes that visitors will notice when the gates re-open for the 2012 season on Saturday 31^st March 2012.

Attracting new rides is also a large focus of the investment. As well as the Laser Labyrinth (this year’s new attraction which opens to the public in time for Halloween on 22^nd October 2011) one mega thrill ride is set to join the park (although details remain secret) along with other smaller attractions. Altogether, Pleasurewood Hills will open in 2012 with a total of five new attractions.

That, mixed with the city’s high level of creative fashion students and retail business hopefuls, meant Norwich was screaming out for a Fashion Week to pull it all together.

After a pilot showcase in February 2011, Norwich Fashion Week came to the city between 22 – 29^th September where a long list of independent retailers, hairdressers, stylists, models and venues came together en masse to promote Norwich as East Anglia’s beating heart of style.

Jungle PR worked with the Fashion Week Board including City College Norwich, Jarrold and Archant to raise the profile of Norwich Fashion Week and communicate how we need an event like this to amalgamate the passion and style that’s brimming from our city. Not only for the good of the retailers working here but for visitors to Norfolk.

The bill was full of creative and inspiring events from the independent fashion show to the Open Store showcasing the work of up-and-coming designers.

Woodforde's Scoop Gold for Latest Brew at Independent Brewers Awards

Independent Norfolk brewery Woodforde’s has been awarded four accolades at this year’s Society of Independent Brewers Awards (SIBA), with latest brew Once Bittern (4%) leading the pack by scooping ‘Gold’ for Best Bitter.

185 beers were judged by an independent panel of 55 industry experts, with NOG (4.6%) winning Silver in the ‘Old Ale’ category, Nelson’s Revenge (4.5%) winning Silver in the ‘Bottled Bitters up to 4.9%’ category, Admiral’s Reserve (5%) taking Bronze for ‘Bottled Bitters Over 5%’ as well as the Gold for Once Bittern.

This is the first award for new brew Once Bittern, which is the latest addition to the Woodforde’s range. This popular copper-coloured ale, which has a distinct aroma of rich spice and citrus fruit, started life as a seasonal beer but after enjoying resounding success, has now become a permanent brew from Woodforde’s.

Neil Bain, Head Brewer at Woodforde’s comments: “These are all significant wins for us, in particular the Gold for Once Bittern. There are so many pale beers on the market which have the same citrus aroma but we’ve worked hard to ensure this one is different – the hints of sweet malt, fruit and warm spice give it a very distinctive taste. Plus for every pint of Once Bittern we sell, we’re making a donation to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust so it’s a special beer for us and for Norfolk”.

Final Autumn Raceday to be Spooky Spectacular for the whole family

A bumper scarefest is heading for Pleasurewood Hills on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk this Halloween as chilling event ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ opens at the family theme park between Saturday 22^nd and Sunday 30^th October 2011.

Between 10am and 4pm daily (except Sunday which is 10am-6pm) Pleasurewood Hills will be transformed with ghoulies and ghosts running amok plus witches and warlocks lurking behind every turn.

Snagglefang’s Back For Another Spooky Spectacular!

BeWILDerwood, the curious treehouse adventure park in Norfolk, is proud to announce the magnificently popular ‘Snagglefang’s Spooky Spectacular’ event is back! So between Monday 24^th and Sunday 30^th October 2011, little BeWILDerbats can have fun, run WILD and join in some extra special October Half Term activities.

With a selection of tree-mendous activities between 1pm and 5pm each day*, there’s plenty to keep adventurers amused! Fly through the bat-themed trail in search of colour-coded bats. The BeWILDerbats have separated their favourite jokes to the punch line for aspiring BeWILDerbats to match them up, and those that do, will win a special badge!

The Twiggles love to dress up in wonderful bright colours. So, put on your glad rags to delight the Twiggles and help them out with creative activities, such as lantern making and mask decorating. At dusk, you can take part in the popular Lantern Parade – if you dare! It will take you on a winding, magical trail through the heart of BeWILDerwood using the lanterns you have made to light and guide the way. Keep a look out for BeWILDerwood characters peering out to say ‘yoo-hoo!’ along the way.

Jungle PR is working with the Hewitt School’s proposal for the ‘Norwich Studio School for Enterprise’ on a pro bono basis.

The relationship kicked off with a brain-storming session to find out exactly what the ethos and idea behind the school is, so that the Marketing Plan could be succinctly written as part of the bid to the Government.

Jungle PR quickly came up with a key mission statement to sum up the Norwich Studio School for Enterprise.

“Norwich Studio School for Enterprise will be the interface between education and business”.

Kate Morfoot said: “We worked closely with the school and submitted the Marketing Plan which has been included in the bid to the Government. The decision on whether the Norwich Studio School for Enterprise will go ahead will be known in November 2011”.

Newmarket Racecourses has announced new additions to the final line-up on Saturday 27^th August 2011, as Peppa Pig and a Glee inspired singing and dancing show join Peter Andre for the family fun day primed to celebrate 25 years of live music at the venue.

Peppa and her little brother George, characters in the hit children’s TV series Peppa Pig, will be in appearing in all enclosures on the July Course throughout the afternoon. Whilst fans of the US TV phenomenon Glee can delight in an early evening performance by G*Mania, a high-energy, feel-good production, featuring talented performers from the UK’s biggest TV Reality Talent Shows including The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance.

‘Norfolk Nip’ Back Into Limited Production for Brewery’s 30th Birthday Year

They say all great things make a comeback and to celebrate 30 years of brewing, Norfolk brewery Woodforde’s, is reviving an age-old local ale recipe, originally produced by former Norwich brewery Steward & Patteson in 1929.

Norfolk NIP (8.5%) is a rare and sought-after beer, the recipe for which was exclusively handed over to Woodforde’s after Steward & Patteson closed in the 1960s.

Since February 2011, Woodforde’s has been maturing the NIP in oak casks to release the limited-edition batch of 2,700 bottles (330cl) which is now on sale.

Adding to the exclusivity of the brew, Norfolk NIP will be available in bottles closely matched to the original and each bottle will be numbered in sequential order, making them highly sought-after.

This is the second time that Woodforde’s has produced Norfolk NIP and the brewery anticipates that the latest batch will sell out quickly.

Mike Betts, Director at Woodforde’s says: “Since Norfolk NIP disappeared from regular production it’s become something of a collector’s item. We have been waiting for a special occasion to bring it back and our 30^th Birthday year seemed the perfect opportunity.”

Woodforde’s Head Brewer, Neil Bain comments: “Our roots are firmly in Norfolk so this is a very special brew for us, not least because it’s such a historic favourite. Once this brew has gone, it’s gone, so it’s definitely one to try or to collect for prosperity.”

Popularity of World-Acclaimed Visitor Causes Event Sell-Out at Pensthorpe

A popular evening event at Pensthorpe Nature Reserve has sold out, with horticultural fans travelling from as far as Spain to secure their place to meet world-acclaimed Dutch plantsman Piet Oudolf.

The Piet Oudolf event at Pensthorpe on Saturday 20^th August 2011 will give green-fingered fans a chance to see the Dutch landscape artist who is renowned for his work on the Dutch New Wave style of planting.

Although tickets have now been sold, organisers are keen to remind fans that Piet will be conducting informal tours of the Millennium Garden and doing a book signing at various stages throughout the day (20^th August). Piet will be accompanied by Pensthorpe’s Head Gardener Imogen Checketts who carried out the replanting on the garden and showcasing his influential style.

Mark Noble, Commercial Manager at Pensthorpe, comments: “Piet is highly-regarded within the gardening world so we’re extremely lucky to welcome him to Pensthorpe. We always knew this event would be popular but it’s drawn a greater crowd than we expected, especially with visitors coming all the way from Spain to see him in person”.

Nature inspired events every day of the summer holidays – come and explore!

Keeping your children entertained during the summer holidays no longer need be a problem, because every day from Saturday 23^rd July to Tuesday 6^th September, Pensthorpe Nature Reserve in Norfolk will be calling all ‘Summer Nature Explorers’ to join in with hands-on activities in their brand new fun Activity Tent.

Included in the entry price, a range of educational activities have been created to encourage children to ‘Get Closer to Nature’ in a fun and exciting way! Activities include Magnetic Fishing, Den Building and a Giant Colouring Wall, where literally everyone is invited to create a wildlife masterpiece! Our energetic Nature Explorers can twist their way through the Nature Maze, be brave and dip their hands into the Feely Fun Boxes or weave in and out of straw bales on the Mini Farmers Tractor Track? They can even give the Pensthorpe Wardens a good grilling too!

Explorers with an eye for nature can experience a bit of wildlife spotting for themselves too at the Meadow Binocular Station, identifying all sorts of fluttery, buzzy creatures such as dragonflies, butterflies and birds! Or, if they’ve had a busy day exploring the Reserve, they can simply chill out at Book Worm Corner!

HRH Princess Anne Cuts Woodforde's 30th Birthday Wherry Cake!

We had a Royal engagement in June when client Woodforde’s welcomed HRH Princess Anne to their brewery bar at the Royal Norfolk Show.

HRH cut the Woodforde’s 30^th birthday cake made from Wherry and met with brewery directors Mike Betts and Dennis Nudd to discuss the fabulous Norfolk barley that goes into every pint!

Jungle handled the media liaison in the run up to the event and were on hand on the day to manage press. Good job too, as ITV Anglia, Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News, BBC Radio Norfolk and the Lynn News came along to interview members of the Woodforde’s team!

It was a fantastic celebration – just a shame HRH didn’t have time to stay for a pint!

Sun, Sea and Sanctuaries with Original Volunteers

The UK’s largest independent volunteering organisation, Original Volunteers, is giving those with a passion for animals the opportunity to combine this with travel and make a difference caring for and protecting, rare, endangered and vulnerable species. Here’s a taster of some of the projects volunteers can get involved with.

Get hands on with monkeys in South Africa! The sanctuary near Pretoria aims to help injured, orphaned young and elderly monkeys. Volunteers get involved in a wide range of tasks from preparing food and checking on the animals to monkey-ing around with the monkeys who are unable to be released back into the wild. This is a fantastic opportunity for animal lovers, and those wishing to take up a career in animal care to spend time nursing sick animals back to health.

Volunteering in Guatemala offers two very different experiences. Volunteers can choose to be based at a lakeside animal refuge and help with the feeding and caring of parrots, macaws, howler monkeys and ocelots which were seized from smugglers. Volunteers also get to enjoy lengthy afternoon siestas, a floating deck for afternoon swims on the lake and a town close by for a real slice of Guatemalan life.

Or travel to Guatemala’s Pacific coast and work as a coastal ecology volunteer. Assist in everything from performing night patrols and helping turtle hatchlings to be released to replanting mangroves and assisting with a caiman and iguana breeding programme. Located on a remote shore line, this is a project for the adventurers amongst us!

All our locations give people with a passion for animals the chance to make a real difference in an area of the world where their help is desperately needed.”

Honduras offers perhaps the widest range of actives and the slowest pace of life for volunteers. Projects in Honduras vary from environmental education with small groups of local children, animal care to trekking in the mangrove swamps monitoring the indigenous iguana population. July Festival is Under Starters Orders at Newmarket Racecourses

Newmarket Racecourses are setting summer in to full swing with the return of The Piper Heidsieck July Festival on Thursday 7th,Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July 2011. With a combination of stunning fashion, world class horse racing and the beautiful setting of the July Course, this is a highlight of the racing calendar!

Thursday 7^th July is the famously popular Ladies Day. Comparable to Royal Ascot but on a much more intimate scale, the day is all about fine fashion and creative couture! Viking Longboat to Invade Pensthorpe’s Mediaeval Spectacular!

Have you ever wanted to travel back in time to find out what life was like as a knight in shining armour or a marauding Viking? Find out for yourself between Saturday 27^th and Monday 29^th August 2011 when The Mediaeval Spectacular returns to Pensthorpe Nature Reserve near Fakenham, and new for this year is a dramatic invasion from a Viking longboat!

Between 10am and 5pm each day visitors can experience what life was like on and off the battlefield from the period between 900 and 1500AD at Norfolk’s premier Mediaeval re-enactment.

As well as the Viking longboat, new for 2011 will be the Master Mason, creating stone carvings suitable for the grandest of cathedrals and castles, and the Alchemist, who creates strange elixirs in his quest for the Philosopher’s Stone.

The sights, sounds and smells will be brought to life with mediaeval cooking, crafts and actors talking through how soldiers’ equipment, weapons and armour developed during this time.

See what everyday life was like in the middle-ages as you wander through the mediaeval marketplace. Haggle with merchants for authentic souvenirs, enjoy the traditional music and dancing of the age and try ale brewed following an original recipe.

You can even get to experience how gruesome a trip to the doctors could have been! Pay a visit to the barber surgeon and see how they pulled teeth without anaesthetic, lanced abscesses, and some of the recipes for medicines of the time. As for urology, only the brave need enter!

But if DIY dentistry isn’t for you there are plenty of other actives to keep you entertained, from coin striking to puppeteers!

Ian Pycroft Event Organiser from Black Knight Historical says: “This is our seventh event and the Reserve will once again be divided into historical zones through the ages, where you can see how soldiers prepared for impending battle or knights getting ready for action in the Tournament. Archers will compete for a grand prize in our ‘Archer of the Realm’ competition, and with over 200 costumed re-enactors camped on site in colourful authentic tents, a real flavour of the times will be created.”

Summer Ale Trail Will Support Our Region's Pubs

A brewery in Norfolk is preparing to launch a Summer Ale Trail which is expected to boost trade for 470 pubs across Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

The Cask Ale Pub Guide 2011, which has been produced by award-winning brewery Woodforde’s, encourages people to support some of East Anglia’s best cask ale pubs by paying them a visit throughout the trail period of Sunday 19th June to Friday 30th September 2011.

Woodforde’s ran a similar ale trail across the region in 2009, and it was so popular that the 2011 Pub Guide includes over 100 more pubs than previously listed. Woodforde’s are confident that this is the largest ever cask ale trail in the UK organised by an independent brewery, and it is expected to attract a great deal of interest throughout East Anglia.
With an estimated 25 pubs closing in the UK each week*, Woodforde’s has made it a priority to support as many publicans as possible with this large summer initiative.

Mike Betts, Director at Woodforde’s, comments: “Our Pub Guide is fantastically popular, as it not only suggests new watering holes for people to visit but it generates additional business for pubs in our region. Volunteer Abroad for Free Thanks to Original Volunteers

Overseas volunteering organisation Original Volunteers pride themselves on making a difference in some of the world’s poorest and disadvantaged communities. To help provide sustainable and continuous support to two struggling projects in Malawi and Tanzania, Original Volunteers has arranged to facilitate free volunteering for those happy to help.

Unlike other projects there is no weekly fee, just a one off donation of £25 and the cost of your flight and selected transfers. Accommodation is free, as is an outbound airport pick up (in some cases), plus volunteers will get free training to help them in their experience.

The Malawi project is centred around a youth group and working in and around the community. The Tanzania project is based at a secondary school. Both have struggled to independently attract willing volunteers so approached Original Volunteers to help.

Since Original Volunteers started promoting these free projects, they have secured 25 volunteers - before Original Volunteers came to help there were only 4.

Original Volunteers’ Programmes Director Caroline Revell comments: “Our volunteer experiences are all about generating additional resource and help to communities that need it most. This is a perfect example of how the work of our volunteers makes a big difference, and in waiving our fees associated with the booking, organising and hosting of a trip, we hope to make it more viable for a lot of people”.

About Tanzania: Tanzania volunteers are located in the town of Iringa in central Tanzania. Working at a local secondary school, volunteers provide much needed class room support. No formal training is needed as training will be given on the project, all you need is the drive to get involved!

About Malawi: The Malawi project is based around a youth group in Domasi near the town of Zomba, located three hours from the airport. Volunteers get involved in a wide range of activities from taking the children on day trips to simply spending time playing with them, the aim is simple, enrich their lives and have as much fun as possible!

To undertake any experience with Original Volunteers, volunteers must be signed up to the books by paying a one-off fee of £125. Like many Original Volunteers customers, this enables them to become a serial volunteer without paying this fee again in the future.

Local Four Gear Up for Coastal Cycle Test

Cycling 800 miles from Lands End to Norwich in just seven days is a task on the agenda for four local business men, in aid of Norwich-based cancer charity The Big C. Chris Batten of ipatter.com, Lee Simpson, a Wealth Advisor for Towry, Stuart Flatt Training Manager at AFA and Colin Richardson, co-founder of Bigfork are collectively aiming to raise £20,000 for the charity by cycling the width of the country between Sunday 12^th and Sunday 19^th June 2011.

The group will be travelling a minimum of 100 miles each day, staying as close to the coast as possible with the team using minor and B roads throughout the journey. Women Are More Selfish Than Men

Jungle PR has been busy with our client Original Volunteers by commissioning a Selfish Survey and releasing the results online and offline to the press at large.

Press coverage has been heavily picked up online by bloggers and online news as far away as India and Australia - chatted about on Loose Women and featured in the Daily Mail Online and The Mirror.

Here's what the survey says!

Women are more selfish than men, a study revealed yesterday.

The study was commissioned by Original Volunteers, the UK’s largest independent overseas volunteering organisation based in Norwich, Norfolk, to mark Volunteers Week.

The conclusion emerged from a study which questioned 2,000 people of both sexes on their attitudes and behaviours towards selfless acts.

It found the nation’s females are more likely to bad-mouth friends behind their back, ignore charity workers at the front door and borrow something but not return it.

They also shun workmates and make their own tea in the office, fail to hold doors open or give way to other drivers.

Blokes fared slightly better - helping out elderly with heavy shopping bags and giving change to the homeless.

But they are less likely to return a favour and don’t bother handing money back after seeing someone drop it.

It also emerged four in ten has never even considered giving up their valuable time to volunteer at local events or fund-raisers.

Programme Director Caroline Revell at Original Volunteers said: ‘’It’s unfortunate to see a large portion of the nation considers themselves selfish.

‘’We’re all guilty of the occasional selfish act but this just goes to show how precious we’ve become over our own time.

‘’It appears that giving up your time is the ultimate sacrifice, more so than dodging charity collectors in the street, bad-mouthing someone for a personal gain or forgetting a friend or relative’s birthday.

‘’The highest areas of selfishness include giving up time to volunteer, with over 80 per cent of both women and men never considering or taking part in volunteering abroad.

‘’And while volunteering and getting involved hasn’t entered many people’s minds, helping others can often mean you end up helping yourself too.

‘’People have the chance to try out teaching, working with street kids, saving endangered species, exploring new cultures, shadowing medical teams or even living with the Masai.

‘’Many volunteers return after a volunteer trip completely refreshed or even feeling like a completely new person. Some take up new careers related to their experience and some give up careers to help others.

‘’It’s common for volunteers to build their confidence, meet new people, learn a language or simply improve their outlook. And skills they pick up can be utilised at work, in social situations and at home.’’

The representative study of 1000 men and 1000 women quizzed them on 33 different situations and females came off worse, with their selfish acts totalling 17, compared to blokes’ 16.

Nearly half of females admitted to being unsympathetic and 55 per cent said they choose the evening meal without taking their other half into consideration.

Three in ten have picked a DVD they wanted to watch rather without even consulting their partner and more than a third admit to regularly breaking a piece of chocolate in two and giving someone else the smaller piece.

A third have lied in order to improve their chances at work and four in ten haven’t got hold of members of their family for ‘too long’.

Men were also far from being squeaky clean - a quarter said they haven’t given someone cash when they were in desperate need of it and one in five purposefully try to dodge buying rounds in the pub.

The same number have pushed into a queue and one in six have splashed someone in their car.

And while they’re happy to volunteer at a sporting event, men are less likely to help at fundraisers or go abroad for projects.

They’ve also not give a colleague a lift when they are blatantly going their way and more than a quarter have passed the buck to a colleague after committing a balls-up at work.

Not clearing up after themselves and going after a girl they know a mate is interested in are also common occurrences for men.

The study also found seven in ten admit to being selfish and nine in ten said they could do more to put other's interests or welfare before their own.

And incredibly, half of people said they committed two or more selfish acts every day.

Eight out of ten said they had never considered volunteering to help a charity or organisation with hectic lifestyles, long working hours or apathy the most common reasons.

Almost one in ten said they didn't bother getting involved because 'there's nothing in it for me'.

Original Volunteers’ spokesperson continues: “While most selfish acts bring about little reward, volunteering time, especially overseas when help is sometimes more needed, brings with it huge personal triumph and increases confidence and sociability”.

One in five ‘can’t remember’ the last time they volunteered for something, one in twenty have never and one in ten said it was two years or more ago.

The online location-based social network ipatter.com has this month launched in Northern Ireland, giving businesses a new opportunity to keep customers updated on what is happening in their organisation.

Dennis No Longer A Menace!

Last week Dennis, one of a score of Eurasian Cranes spearheading the Great Crane Project, a plan to reintroduce the species to southwest England after an absence of 400 years, was packed off for a long holiday in Norfolk. Dennis, who was originally brought from Germany to England as an egg, had been reared with a cohort of young cranes at a specially constructed facility at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire.

After three months being reared to behave like a wild crane, Dennis, along with the others in his cohort, was relocated to a Royal Society for the Protection of Birds release site on the Somerset Levels. Unfortunately, although his friends soon all got the idea of flying and foraging for themselves, Dennis didn’t. No matter how much his camouflaged human mentor Roland Digby from the Pensthorpe Conservation Trust (a third partner in the Great Crane Project), flapped and ran around, Dennis just stared on in disbelief. “It seems that Dennis is just one of those souls happy to watch the world go by without making an effort to join in – I think we all know one or two people like that!” said Roland. “On a serious note though, releasing Dennis into the wild would put him at risk of fox predation or accidental death, so he would be a menace to himself” he said.

As Dennis’s wild genes are too valuable to lose from the Great Crane Project, Dennis was re-homed to Pensthorpe in Norfolk, where he will join the captive flock of twelve Eurasian Cranes. “Our plan is to pair him up with a young female in our flock” said Chrissie Kelley, Head of Species Management (pictured above with Dennis on his arrival in North Norfolk). “She is incredibly gentle and we think she’ll make the perfect partner for him” she said.

The Great Crane Project is a partnership between the Pensthorpe Conservation Trust, the RSPB, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and Viridor Environmental Credits.

Brand New Project Gives Volunteers the Opportunity to Experience Life with the Masai

Original Volunteers, the UK largest independent volunteering company, has launched a brand new project giving people the chance to see Africa through the eyes of the people that call it home!
With no running water or electricity, volunteers will experience life in Kenya on the Masai Mara. Staying with a Masai family in their hut, volunteers will get involved with Masai daily life; cooking, tending to livestock and joining in with celebrations. The project, based 30 km South of Nairobi, will give volunteers an experience like no other for just £40 per week including food, accommodation and transfers.

Volunteers have the option of teaching in a local school and don’t need any teaching experience to be a successful, just the commitment to have a go. Alternatively, volunteers can immerse themselves in Masai culture and be part of day-to-day life, helping them with daily chores. Medical students also have the option of working in a local clinic assisting in a dispensary.

This is the second Original Volunteers project in Kenya although a new scheme the programme has already received several bookings from a wide range of people, not just the student or gap year base you might expect. Original Volunteers has also received of bookings from a more mature audience; the over 50’s whose own children have flown the nest are seeing this as a great way to inexpensively see the world and give something back.

Original Volunteers Programmes Director Caroline Revell comments: “We saw such success with our first project in Mombasa where volunteers’ help in the education of street children that another programme was needed to meet demand. Forget Bunnies this Easter, its Carousel Horses Under Starters Orders

You can forget all about bunnies this Easter – because this year, it’s all about horses! On Easter Bank Holiday Monday (25^th April), Great Yarmouth Racecourse is holding its family race day and along with the familiar race day festivities there is an unusual and unique twist. For the first time ever on a UK race course, 30 carousel horses from Pleasurewood Hills, which have been lovingly restored by art students from across the region, will be under starter's orders!

Art students from schools and colleges across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire were challenged to re-design the bodywork of the carousel horses, in an attempt to breathe new life in to one of the park's most beloved attractions. After months of sanding down, researching, designing and painting, the horses will be ready to be unveiled and what better place to show them off than the Parade Ring at Great Yarmouth Racecourse?

The horses will be on display from 12pm when the gates open and members of the public can judge the designs. Channel 4’s racing commentator Derek Thompson will be delivering the racing ‘form’ of the students’ creations and once a shortlist has been announced, the finalist horses, plus the students who designed them, will make their way to the Parade Ring where professional jockeys, experts from the Race course and representatives from Pleasurewood Hills will select a winner.

Prizes and cups will be up for grabs and the winning creations will be invited to the Winner’s Enclosure.

Since the horses were carefully removed from the carousel and delivered to the groups back in January 2011, the results have been eagerly awaited.

Alexis Camelin, General Manager at Pleasurewood Hills says: "After a decade of service and an estimated two million riders the horses were in need of a face lift. It's been great getting the student's involved in our first project of this kind, I can't wait to see what they have come up with."

Pleasurewood Hills demonstrated its commitment to the project by donating £100 to each participating school or college, as well as covering the cost of all materials that were used designing the artwork.

Glenn Tubby General Manager of Great Yarmouth Racecourse adds: "Not only is it a fantastic way to get the creative juices flowing but also an opportunity for young people to experience a race day atmosphere. With the Easter Bank Holiday Monday being our family race day with plenty of additional entertainment for the younger generation, we hope that the carousel horses will add to the vibrant, fun, family atmosphere that everyone enjoys."

Students Seek Original Work Experience Overseas

With unemployment levels in the UK reaching an all time high for 16 to 24 year olds (up to 20.6%* this quarter) students at UK universities and colleges are looking further afield in their search to gain credible work experience placements, boost career options and life experience.

With enquiries up 100% on last year at the UK’s leading independent volunteering organisation Original Volunteers, many of these calls are coming from medical, sports and sixth-form students in search of an alternative work placement where their skills are most desperately needed.

One further education destination using this to good effect is Cambridge Regional College who sent 14 Sports Leadership students to Morocco for one week’s volunteering for the first time in June 2010, and plan to do so again in 2011.

Kelly Taylor, a sports student at Cambridge Regional College comments: "The trip was a great success as we not only managed to make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of children, but it really opens your eyes on how bad poverty really is and how lucky we really are.

“I experienced things that I never thought I would and it was such a rewarding thing to do. We took over lots of sports kits and equipment and taught the children new and exciting games. All the children we worked with were extremely eager to learn and it’s boosted my teaching. Volunteering in Morocco was one of the most amazing experiences of my life", Kelly adds.

Programmes Director at Original Volunteers, Caroline Revell comments: “Interest from universities and colleges has been on the increase over the past year, with many more second and third year medical students looking to gain hands-on experience in countries where they can make a real difference!

“Students and tutors from a number of regional colleges in England have been on an Original Volunteers experience – teaching English and Maths, helping out with arts, crafts, sports, construction and building hands-on experience.”

With close links to over 100 different projects in countries such as Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nepal, Original Volunteers’ experiences offer students the hands on practise required as part of their course or to further their careers. The Going Looks Good for 2011 at Newmarket Racecourses

2010 was an important year for Newmarket Racecourses – in spite of the recession, their conferences and events business increased by a healthy 10% as private sector businesses responded well to a number of initiatives introduced at the Newmarket venue over the past 12 months.
“It has been a challenging year for businesses across the UK but we have come out of 2010 well. Of course any growth in business is obviously good news for us – but it also has an impact on the local economy”, commented Adrian Simpson, sales and marketing director at Newmarket Racecourses. “Many of our events bring thousands of people to Newmarket and this is all very important for the region – both to its current prosperity and future growth.”
The UK events industry may be worth over £36billion but it is still suffering in the current economic climate. The supply of corporate meetings facilities and services far outweighed demand in 2010 as budgets were tightened and recovery was steady but slow. Newmarket Racecourses have responded to tightening budgets by broadening their portfolio of conference and events packages. The introduction of a smaller meetings package, for instance, has proved very popular.

The venue has recognised and understood that some clients and potential new clients need to reduce their expenditure further in 2011 – the emphasis is often very much focussed on driving down costs through tough negotiations. Benchmark Hospitality International’s Top Ten Meeting Trends for 2010 include the observation that planners come to pricing discussions today armed with negotiation skills carefully honed over the last 12-18 months. Concessions across the board are now very often expected in order to get the most value for the meetings budget.

Newmarket Racecourses have responded to this trend. “It’s a case of ensuring cost efficiency so we can meet the changing needs of clients in the current economic climate”, commented Adrian Simpson. The introduction of a 12 month offer programme has helped to boost business. In March for example, every new conference delegate from new bookings will be given two tickets for a non premier race day and in April, clients can take advantage of a 15% discount on conference or meeting bookings (Monday/Tuesday & Friday only).

A number of large local companies and branches of national companies have taken advantage of these offers and use the venue regularly, mainly for conferences and smaller meetings. Business Link are just one of the corporate clients who book a number of events at Newmarket Racecourses
throughout the year, from smaller meetings to large conferences. The beauty of Newmarket for conferences and events is the flexibility of the 350 year old venue. It can accommodate 300 for a conference but there are also 15 breakout rooms, unique to the venue, as well as ample free parking and complimentary wi-fi.
In addition to growth in business from the private sector, Newmarket Racecourses have also extended the number of public events hosted at the venue over the past 12 months – and this business has extended further in 2011. The venue has just secured a major piece of business from clothes retailer Joules. They will be holding their annual clothes sale at Newmarket Racecourses on 7th, 8th and 9th April and the venue expects at least 6000 visitors to come through the doors for this event.
The number of exhibitions staged at Newmarket has increased, both from the corporate and public events sectors - and the value of such events is huge. Recent research confirms that before an exhibition or similar live event 36% of people say attendance makes it easier to buy, but this rises to 76% after experiencing an event (Business Visits and Events Partnership). The value to any business is obvious.

For the first time, The Home and Garden Show will be taking place at Newmarket Racecourses. It will be held at The Rowley Mile on 7th and 8th May 2011. “We are very pleased to be hosting the first ever Home and Garden Show in 2011. We have a flexible approach to exhibitions and events and work closely with clients to ensure we meet the brief, large or small”, explained Adrian Simpson. “We are also perfectly placed – where else can you access fully equipped exhibition halls alongside acres of outdoor space in an easily accessible location close to the A11 and A14 and just a few miles from Cambridge?”
Newmarket Racecourses have retained all their Annual Public Events for 2011 – no small achievement in the increasingly competitive climate. Annual events include The Newmarket Wedding Show, Presents Galore and The Art, Craft and Design show, all of which attract over 2000 visitors. Christmas Parties are also a massive part of the Conference & Events Business. In 2011, due to an increase in demand, the number has been increased to 10 – three have already sold out. The Christmas Parties are the biggest in the region, catering for 500 people at a time.
Newmarket Racecourses are going from strength to strength – and with a mood of cautious optimism prevailing across the conferences and events industry, the going looks good for 2011.

Woodforde's team up with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust to Launch Seasonal Ale, Once Bittern

It may not be conventional to mix twitching with a tipple but in the case of the brand new brew produced by Woodforde’s in association with Norfolk Wildlife Trust, it’s a “booming” marvellous combination.

Once Bittern (4%), the latest seasonal brew from the award-winning brewery, is a copper-coloured ale with a distinctive aroma of rich spice and citrus fruit. Uniquely created from a special blend of high quality Norfolk ingredients, the beer has hints of sweet malt, fruit and warm spice with a dry finish.

Once Bittern will be widely available in pubs throughout East Anglia and for each pint sold a donation will be made to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

Once Bittern will carry the characteristically Norfolk pump clip of a bittern immersed in a reed bed along The Broads. Bitterns are one of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s flagship species.

Sustainability is Bearing Fruit for Kelling Heath

It may be renowned for its woodland setting but today (Monday 7^th March) Kelling Heath Holiday Park added two new fruit trees to the estate thanks to North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) which awarded the Park trees instead of trophies for its success at the recent Environment Awards.

Planting the trees, which coincides with National Tree Week, were NNDC Councillor Henry Cordeaux along with Ian Hacon, CEO of Blue Sky Leisure which owns Kelling Heath and Stephen Hubbard, one of Kelling Heath’s longest serving employees.

As with all trees at Kelling Heath, the new additions have been chosen with relevance to the Park in mind – the trees share their names with the people planting them! Plus, the ‘Hubbard’s Pearmain’ (apple) and the ‘Hacon’s Incomparable’ (pear) are native to Norfolk and East Anglia, with the Hubbard’s Pearmain in particular being a longstanding favourite on Norwich Market.

The NNDC Environment Awards recognise the grassroots ‘green’ projects in the district including the prestigious John Sweeney Award, which was won by Kelling Heath on account of its ongoing contribution to sustainability. The trees have been awarded to Kelling Heath for being ‘highly commended’ in the Green Business Category and Woodhill Holiday Park, also owned by Blue Sky Leisure, being ‘highly commended’ in the Green Building Category for its Sustainable Shower Block. However, due to the coastal weather conditions at Woodhill Holiday Park, the tree would certainly not survive there, hence its location with the other at Kelling Heath.

Mark Durrant, Park Manager at Kelling Heath comments: “Planting the fruit trees is a significant occasion for us, not just because it commemorates our success at the Environment Awards but also because it demonstrates exactly what we’ve been recognised for. Kelling Heath has now entered projects into the Environment Awards for two years running, and we hope to see them enter again this year!”

Kelling Heath is already home to the popular Tree Trail, a circular trail of 25-specimen trees launched in Spring 2010, one for each year of ownership by the Timewell family. The new fruit trees will be located next to the orchard which forms part of the Tree Trail.

To celebrate National Tree Week from 7^th – 13^th March,where better to embrace nature and experience the woodlands than at Kelling Heath Holiday Park’s Anniversary Specimen Tree Trail at Weybourne in North Norfolk?

Launched in 2010, the trail of twenty five trees, (one for each year of the holiday park’s ownership by the Timewell family), has been created to celebrate the naturally diverse collection of impressive trees already present on the Park. However, parts of the trail are made up of more exotic specimens that have been specially introduced to the Park for the purpose of this trail.

The more unusual trees include a Giant Redwood, a native of California and regarded as the biggest tree in the world! A Eucalyptus native of Australia, but now common throughout Europe, the Eucalyptus is known for its unusually cold leaves! Also the Persian Ironwood normally found in the region around Northern Iran which has pink, brown and yellow bark!

At 11am on Monday 7^th March, the collection is set to grow with the addition of two new fruit trees, which were given to Kelling Heath when the Park was shortlisted in two categories of the North Norfolk District Council Environmental Awards 2010. Each tree will be named after a member of Blue Sky Leisure, the organisation which owns Kelling Heath. The ‘Hacons Incomparable’ will be named after CEO Ian Hacon and the ‘Hubbards Pear’ after one of the company’s longest serving members of staff, Stephen Hubbard.

As well the addition of two fruit trees a free guided walk of the Tree Trail will be taking place at 10.30am on 9^th March.

This unique collection gives visitors the chance to observe some of our most impressive native trees as well as some of the more exotic and wonderful specimens from around the world.
